As an award winning cyclist (“Rider who spent most time in the Sun”: Blue Cross Ride 2018) I was delighted to be asked to join this expedition. I am sure all the riders were equally delighted I would be driving a support vehicle and not slowing down the peloton. After teaching in the UK for 29 years I moved to Africa with my wife, spending 8 years in International schools in Malawi and Uganda. Not ready to return home just yet we retired to Kommetjie, south of Cape Town. Here we live on the most beautiful cycling coast in the world and I could do the Cape Argus route every day… but once a year is probably enough.
